BEING MORTAL BY ATUL GAWANDE

 For those of us in the latter stages of our lives or who have a loved one who is, the issues discussed in this volume are critically important.  Gawande’s thought provoking book has the potential to change the medical profession and quality of life when faced with difficult decisions.  The NY times book review gives a glimpse of what Being Mortal encompasses.

THE BEST PATH TO LONG-TERM CHANGE IS SLOW, SIMPLE AND BORING

A wonderful piece was published in the New York Times on the power of slow, monotonous investing. Whether it is our money or our time, how we put each penny or minute to work makes a huge difference over time. Keep the big picture in mind, and that “boring” decision will seem much more exciting.

THE SEDUCTION OF PESSIMISM – COLLABORATIVE FUND

The argument for a gloomy pessimistic view of the direction the world is heading has always sounded much more sophisticated and intellectually seductive than the optimistic view.  An optimist will simply say something like: I predict the world will generally get better in fits and starts given enough time.  Count us in the optimistic camp.

Wherever you sit on the political spectrum, you will learn something about the U.S. tax system from this video. We sure did.
